Q&A

Q: How many hours of services does your comprehensive package offer each month?

A: We provide as many hours, “within reason,” as it takes to do the best possible job to ensure that your application is as strong as possible. I am absolutely committed to assisting you in getting into your dream school. “Within reason” means as much time that I have available between one p.m. and 11 p.m., Monday through Friday. Historically, to provide the best possible service to my clients, I have dedicated 10-15 hours a week to each one of them. However, I'm perfectly fine with dedicating more hours per week to clients if they need it.

Q: How does your consulting service compare to others?

A: I pursue a scholastic- and research-oriented approach to college consulting inspired by my experience as a physics Ph.D. student. Thus, I seek to use my research skills to help my clients craft an original application which contains insights that are profound enough to stand out amongst the plethora of essays that other consultants have helped to craft. These profound insights are inspired by my love of philosophy, in particular, dialectics ranging from Socrates, Kant, Hegel, and others. A common flaw in many applications are three glowing letters of recommendation which all say the exact same thing. I ensure their recommendations don't make this mistake.

Q: Do you read peer-reviewed research papers to help you consult?

A: Yes. I read peer reviewed research papers in relevant topics, even for undergraduate admissions, to help me be the best possible consultant for my clients. For Ph.D. admissions, I extensively read peer reviewed papers in the field that my client is applying for, especially papers written by their prospective advisors, so I can help them write the strongest Statement of Purpose possible.

Q: Do you help with researching and applying to scholarships?

A: I absolutely do. All clients receive comprehensive scholarship consulting services for no additional charge with my comprehensive package. The value of the scholarships I help my clients secure are far greater than my consulting fees. These scholarships include Rhodes Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship, The Knight-Hennessy Scholarship, and many more. I do everything that I can to ensure my clients will receive a positive return on their investment in my services.

Q: What is your preferred method of communication for consulting?

A: Primarily email to keep records of our agreed upon courses of action. Zoom meetings will be a secondary source of communication.

Q: Do you offer tutoring services as well?

A: I absolutely do.  I am concerned with any factor that can influence one's chances of being admitted. That is why I constantly monitor the grades of my clients and if I see any dips in their grades I intervene promptly. It is part of my job to ensure my clients have the highest grades they can achieve so they have the best chances of being admitted to their first choice college. That is why I offer tutoring for all math, physics, and humanities classes conducted in the English language. For tutoring needs outside of those aforementioned categories, I help find tutors for my clients.

Q: Do you offer standardized test tutoring (SAT, ACT, ect)?

A: I don't do so personally. But because standardized test scores still matter (thankfully not as much as they used to), I help find my clients appropriate tutors and do anything else that is within my power to make sure they receive the best possible scores.

Q: What services do you offer for those who are a year or two away from applying to college?

A: 1. Advising which courses and extracurricular activities one should take part in while in high school. 2. Looking for competitions (such as Intel) and events that clients can take part in to highlight their skills and distinguish themselves. 3. Coaching them in these competitions and events, to the best of my abilities, as someone with a doctorate in physics. 4. Monitoring grades and offering tutoring services to ensure that good grades are consistently achieved. 5. Looking for scholarships and helping with scholarship applications. 6. Helping to look for and to apply for internships. 7. An early start on brainstorming and writing common app and supplemental essays.

Q: What's your life story?

A: I grew up in a single parent household in the Bronx, New York, where my prospects of receiving a rigorous math and physics education were bleak. Fortunately, I started Brooklyn Technical High School in the tenth grade. Attending Brooklyn Tech changed my life for the better, but at the time it did not seem that way considering how unprepared I was and how much I struggled. Nonetheless, I made it through Brooklyn Tech by the skin of my teeth, and graduated New York University magna cum laude with a degree in physics. I obtained my Ph.D. in physics at Yale, specializing in quantum gravity and lattice field theory. Now I help others achieve the same dream that I did.

Q: Describe your philosophy on common app essays?

A: It is critical that whoever reads the common app essay learns something new they didn't know before beyond personal information concerning the applicant. If they can learn a new fact, or perspective, they will remember your essay and it will go a long way in securing your admission into your dream school. I help clients achieve this by employing my specialized knowledge of STEM and philosophy. I also work to make sure the common app essay synergies well with the supplemental essays and overall application. The best applications are more than the sum of their parts.

Q: What is your approach on recommendation letters?

A: I recommend having a draft of your common app and supplemental essays written for your top choice school prior to asking for letters of recommendation. This way you can highlight to your recommenders what you would like them to corroborate. Overall, it also helps them figure out what they should write. I help clients identify what parts of their applications can be further strengthened by corroboration and help them choose which recommenders are best for providing that corroboration. I also help my clients to get their recommenders to be in touch with each other in order to reduce redundancies.
